Some of the most loyal supporters of the organization like Peter Klein and the Claire Friedlander Foundation sponsored the event and made this gathering possible. In addition, Clayton Orehek and Gordana Cavlina, expressed their passion for Tesla’s history through neon art, which added a vibrant energy to the night. Steve and Ellen Matza, whose hands-on Tesla knowledge helped bring his innovations to life, and Cynthia von Buhler, whose generous gift of graphic novels enriched our experience.

The Manhattan II, a1920s motor yacht with all the elegance you’d expect, features teak decks, mahogany finishes, and an all-glass observatory that lets the sunlight pour in, making the interior feel warm and inviting. The yacht’s design feels grand and intimate at the same time, with a large, enclosed space perfect for chatting, relaxing, and soaking up the river views. Plus, the yacht’s glass observatory makes sure there isn’t a single obstructed view as you glide north along the tree-lined Hudson River.  The main area is heated, which is ideal for colder temps but with all the glass windows, the sun keeps you toasty.  There are outlets at the tables, for recharging phones, as trust us you’re going to want to take photos.

As we headed out, the city skyline faded into a backdrop of reds, yellows, and orange hued trees. Each turn on the river offered a new view of the gorgeous fall foliage that only intensified as we reached the majestic Palisades.  With this picturesque scenery, the open-air deck was an absolute highlight. If you plan to step out there , pack warm layers; it’s breezy, and the chill can make it feel even cooler on the water. Sunglasses are also a great idea, as the sunlight reflecting off the Hudson can be extremely bright.

Lunch was on the table as soon as we sat down.  The menu changes weekly, but we were served a delicious fall-inspired menu. We started with an autumn salad with earthy beets, blueberries, creamy goat cheese, and a side of fresh-baked focaccia.  The next course was two sandwiches followed by a choice of soups. The French onion sandwich was richly savory, and the chicken and dumpling soup was the ultimate comfort food—perfectly hearty and warming. We wrapped up with a dessert buffet that really captured the taste of the season. The apple cider donuts were delicious, and the pumpkin-shaped cookies added a fun, festive touch.

Each guest at the Fall Foliage Cruise received a complimentary drink with the meal, with options ranging from sparkling wine to local beer. For those looking to add a little extra seasonal spirit, the fall-themed cocktails were available to purchase, and many people enjoyed their half-price cocktail as a warm way to toast the day. Sipping a glass of wine on the open deck while surrounded by fall colors was truly unforgettable.

The lightly narrated tour added to the experience without overwhelming the peaceful vibe. As we cruised, the staff made the day feel all the more special, helping everyone feel at ease and taken care of. It’s easy to see why this yacht is popular for private events; we could imagine it being a lovely setting for birthdays or even a “meet the family” gathering. It was one of those experiences that felt uniquely New York, blending the city’s historic charm with the beauty of nature right at the edge of Manhattan.
