The resort’s award-winning chefs are committed to serving delicious and nutritious meals made from the freshest locally sourced ingredients. Guests can choose from a variety of culinary options, including farm-to-table fare, vegetarian and vegan dishes, and international cuisine inspired by flavors from around the world. With an emphasis on wholesome ingredients and mindful eating, alcohol free dining at Canyon Ranch is not only a pleasure for the palate but also an integral part of the wellness experience. There is a snack bar open throughout the day with smoothies and healthy snacks. My favorite were their daily made scones! Of course one of the biggest fears for most, if it is your first time visiting is staying hungry from eating healthy. I assure you, there is nothing to worry about. Each meal served was absolutely delicious, nutritious and generous. Even presentation is impressive. Delicious soups, fish, yummy appetizers and desserts. We really enjoyed various after dinner entertainment- a jazz trio one night and a pianist another.

Of course what makes this place so special is that if you wanted to try all the classes and treatments it would take you while since there is a such a wide variety of services. Bindi Shirodhara and Chinese Vitality are two distinct experiences offered at Canyon Ranch Lenox that we opted for.
Bindi Shirodhara is an ancient Ayurvedic therapy designed to calm the mind and promote overall well-being. It is sure to say , one of the most relaxing and pleasant experiences you can have, especially if you are a frequent spa visitor. During the Bindi Shirodhara experience at Canyon Ranch Lenox, guests are treated to a tranquil environment where soothing music and aromatic scents enhance the therapeutic effects of the treatment. You first answer few questions so that your Ayurvedic dosha is determined. There are three : kapha- water and earth, pitta- fire and water and vata- space and air. Than all you have to do is get comfortable and based on traditional Ayurvedic principles restore balance to body and mind. Special oils corresponding to your dosha and an herbal masque prepare you for the Shirodhara – warm oil over the third eye and scalp. For a first timer it is very exciting!

An Indian balancing bowl is rolled along the soles of your feet, even each toe so the combination of herbal infusions and light Ayurvedic massage, cleanses your skin, restores your spirit, and refreshes your energy. Then it is time for the grand finale, the warm herbal oil cascades gently onto the forehead, creating a sensation of profound tranquility and inner peace. It involves the gentle pouring of warm herbal oil over the center of the forehead, also known as the “third eye”. The therapy aims to balance the mind, body, and spirit by inducing a state of deep relaxation and releasing accumulated stress and tension. As the oil flows rhythmically, guests often experience a sense of mental clarity and emotional harmony. The Bindi Shirodhara experience is not only a physical therapy but also a spiritual journey that promotes mindfulness and inner awareness. It encourages guests to let go of mental chatter, embrace stillness, and reconnect with their inner selves. Many participants report feelings of profound relaxation, improved sleep quality, and enhanced overall well-being following the treatment. This treatment is an option each guest should prioritize if possible.
Chinese Vitality is another unique approach inspired by traditional Chinese medicine principles and practices. It encompasses a holistic approach to health and vitality, focusing on restoring balance and harmony within the body’s energy systems. At Canyon Ranch Lenox, there are few alternative medicine options tailored to individual needs and preferences but we opted for Chinese Vitality since it included a comprehensive evaluation, acupuncture sessions, herbal and lifestyle consultation. Chinese medicine practitioner Mark Lamore, started with checking my pulse, both arms, apparently there are few different ones. Asked me about my habits and then proceeded to check my ears and my tongue. These gave him a full picture of the state of my well being and what kind of acupuncture is needed. Than thin needles are placed into specific points on the body to stimulate energy flow and promote healing. Personalized acupuncture treatments aim at addressing various health concerns, such as pain management, stress reduction, digestive issues, and emotional well-being. Through the Chinese Vitality program at Canyon Ranch Lenox, guests have the opportunity to explore ancient healing traditions, get a recommendation for herbal formulas and integrate them into their modern lifestyles. By embracing the principles of TCM, individuals can cultivate greater resilience, vitality, and balance in all aspects of their lives.
Canyon Ranch Lenox
In conclusion, Canyon Ranch Lenox offers a truly transformative retreat where guests can nourish their bodies, minds, and spirits, a holistic approach to wellness that fosters lasting health and vitality. Whether seeking relaxation, rejuvenation, or simply a moment of respite from the demands of everyday life, Canyon Ranch invites guests to indeed embark on a journey of self-discovery and renewal.

]]>We were greeted with a smile and a delicious glass of bubbly upon arrival and immediately got a sense of ” we are in for a treat”. The rooms at The Wheatleigh are a study in understated luxury. Rich fabrics, sumptuous linens, and beautiful furnishings create an ambiance of warmth and serenity. From cozy marble fireplace to spacious suites, every accommodation is meticulously appointed to ensure the utmost comfort and relaxation. We loved a tasty cheese plate welcome upon entering our room, with some more bubbly just in time for a gorgeous sunset from our room’s terrace. Guests may choose from a variety of room options but no matter the choice, every room offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape, inviting guests to unwind and embrace the beauty of nature.
Rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art amenities, high ceilings, fine antiques, and museum-quality art. Each room has a flat-screen television, high-speed internet access, and luxurious bathrooms complete with soaking tubs and rainfall showers. Whether traveling for business or pleasure, guests will find everything they need for a truly unforgettable stay. We visited during holidays so tasteful decorations just made our stay more joyous and tempted us to really enjoy the lobby and walks around the property. There is also a heated pool available during warmer months.
Why is this property so special and it is like no other? It is a jewel of the Berkshires and as you visit surrounding mansions and museums you would catch photographs of the Wheatleigh going back many years. An exceptional luxury hotel, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 is just minutes ride from Lenox, Ventfort Hall Mansion and Gilded Age Museum, The Mount – Edith Wharton’s home , Tanglewood Music Center and many restaurants and cafes.
If you are interested in some outdoor activities, Berkshire Camino is the way to go. We were lucky to meet the founder Mindy Miraglia, and she took us for a fun hike. It is important to note that getting around by car is the best especially if you want to visit surrounding towns, Stockbridge, Great Barrington and Sheffield. We had a little antiquing lesson from very knowledgable Mrs Silver of Susan Silver Antiques in Sheffield.
To be honest, if you are staying at the Wheatleigh, the ambiance is so wonderful you simply want to spend most of your time on this beautiful property. We did just that and dined-in both nights in addition to breakfast. James Beard awarded Chef RJ Cooper is very creative and personable, and it was a great pleasure to experience both of the restaurants on the property Sage and Sparrow, and Hawthorne. Focused on locally sourced ingredients Sage and Sparrow is great for a special occasion. We tried the pre-fix menu with about 14 dishes. It was adventures with a mixture of all sorts of taste buds surprises. Caviar and ice cream, squab and many more sweet and salty combos. Each dish was beautifully presented. “Oooops!! I dropped the apple pie” was one of my favorites. It was “carefully dropped” and brought to the table. After the last course, the chef greeted us, and we ended the night with one last treat, handmade chocolates.
Hawthorne, also located at the Wheatleigh, is a modern American cuisine restaurant with global influences. Their breakfast menu is great and my absolute favorite was the breakfast basket full of scrumptious pastries. A sugared donut-like delight, with cheesy filling is an addictive menu item. Chef RJ Cooper served it with homemade strawberry jam made with pepper. An “interesting” combo yet so tasty. In addition we had a really delicious dinner with more traditional dishes.
The restaurant space itself is a work of art, with soaring ceilings and panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The elegant dining room exudes an air of timeless sophistication, making it the perfect setting for intimate dinners and celebrations. During the warmer months, guests can dine al fresco on the hotel’s spacious terrace, surrounded by manicured gardens and sweeping vistas of the Berkshires.
Guests at Wheatleigh can indulge in world-class dining experiences, relax in opulent suites, and enjoy personalized service in a serene setting. Perfect for a romantic getaway, family gathering or a wedding, Wheatleigh promises a memorable stay marked by sophistication and attention to detail. In conclusion, Wheatleigh stands as a symbol of timeless elegance and impeccable service.
Little bit of history: In 1893, Henry H. Cook purchased estate land in The Berkshires. He hired the Peabody and Stearns architectural firm in Boston to build Wheatleigh, an Italianate-style country home inspired by his ancestral family home in Wheatley, Oxfordshire. The luxurious hotel features contemporary accommodations in an elegant Gilded Age mansion.
